After a few grim years in the promotional products industry 2010 appears to represent a total turnaround. ASI recently reported that on average distributor growth was up almost eight percent in total over last year. A closer look at the numbers shows that suppliers on average are up by twenty or more percent. The leading categories continue to be bags and items like pens. Calendars are always popular especially this time of the year but have slipped to only about ten percent of the industry sales.
There are thousands of pen manufacturers. Many of these pens look identical from vendor to vendor making promotional pens purchases difficult because it is tough to compare head to head. Leading manufacturers like Hub Pen have made a living producing high quality but inexpensive writing instruments that have a one to two year run before they get knocked off by the competition. The trouble is that by the time they pull a patent on an item it has fallen out of favor and the costs of getting it patented prohibit most manufacturers from taking that step.
To read more about the ASI story on industry growth you can visit the ASI website. If you are interested in trying to find a pen for your budget you can find various tools on the ASI site that will allow you to search by price or brand. Alternatively you can go direct to manufacturers sites which will detail over the coming days.

It is about the time of the year when marketing managers and human resources professionals start looking for the promotional gifts they will give away to their clients and employees. A lot of people have been fired over the last two years and there's a good chance contacts you had a year ago are long gone today. You probably haven't had much contact with the new responsible party so you will only have one chance to get it right.
You've got to know your market and their price point this year. That price point is low! If they can't hire back staff they can't afford a twenty dollar bag. Take a close look at something like a cheap promotional drawstring bag like the one offered by Empire. It's got all the colors you may be interested in can be used for about any purpose by kids or by adults. Some students will use it as a mini laundry bag, others use them as book bags and still others use them to hold their dirty clothes are a game. You can also take a look at things like hand blown glass ornaments that are offered by dozens of distributors. Keep in mind not everyone has a tree and be sensitive to their needs so they are not potentially offended.

It was just a year or two ago that aluminum bottles took the promotional products industry by storm. Dozens of manufacturers immediately jumped to release products but many did not contain food liners. Leeds and Bullet have continued to lead the category.
Released earlier this year and providing all of the benefits of stainless but with lighter weight and lower cost the HighTower Aluminum Bottle can be decorated in a variety of methods. What is critical for any promo products provider is that the unit is also lined with a bronze colored coating that will resist cracking over the long term making it a wise alternative. At the same time the Eclipse Aluminum Bottle has the same rugged construction that is both light weight and durable while also having an attached carabineer. Custom carabineers are always popular but in this case Leeds has decided to include it without a charge. That opens up a world of possibilities and will allow you or your end user client to attach this bottle to any bag or tote.
There is one critical consideration when it comes to aluminum. You absolutely have to make sure it has been lined with a food grade coating. Otherwise it will oxidize just like aluminum you see on your fence or on your boat. Oxidized aluminum is not a safe drinking medium and just like aluminum fuel tanks your custom aluminum water bottles must be lined for your safety. |

There has been some big news in the promotional products industry since our last update. Bullet Line has decide to stop offering custom embroidered hats effectively immediately. This comes just a few months after heavily promoting these same hats in the 2010 catalog. The net result is a lot of aggravated distributors. Many were left in a lurch with orders in process while the announcement was made and had to absorb increased costs getting jobs done locally.
The holidays are rapidly approaching and one of the favored gifts at this time of year as always is custom 1gb usb flash drives. The smaller size of the 1gb drives has kept cost down over larger versions and truth be told the 1gb capacity is fine for almost every use. The 1gb size is plenty to store huge amounts of data files and thousands of images even at the highest of resolutions. This size will also store up to fifteen minutes of HD video. If the end user is going to need greater capacity 2 and 4gb models are now readily available but also a bit more expensive.
In larger news American Apparel has so far managed to stay operating. A couple of years ago Broder went through a similar difficulty and has emerged a much stronger company. Norwood also had the same difficulties and is stronger today than ever. |
